Solar Photovoltaics
What we do
We supply and install Solar Photovoltaic systems on commercial and domestic
buildings.
Solar PV (photovoltaic) uses energy from the sun to create electricity to
run appliances and lighting.
PV systems produce no greenhouse gases small domestic system can save
something like 1.8 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
Efficiency
The amount of electricity produced will depend on how much direct light is
on the panel, this does not need to be sunlight, they will still produce
power on a cloudy day. PV panels have improved dramatically over the last
few years and are now more efficient and should be considered by anyone
looking for sustainable power generation on both a small or larger scale.
The amount of energy generated will depend on the number panels installed. A
standard system of 2 kW will produce 1500 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year,
which will provide approximately 45% of the average 3 bedroom household’s
needs. Smaller or larger systems can be fitted depending on both available
space and budget.
Site Suitability
The panels should ideally be facing south, between SE and SW, either ground
mounted or on the roof. Shading from trees or other buildings should be
avoided. Once the panels are installed they will produce FREE energy, for
the lifetime of the modules, guaranteed for 25 years.
Size of system
The amount of energy depends on how many panels you have installed. A
standard system of 2 kW will produce at least 1500 kW hrs per year, which
will provide approximately 45% of the average 3 bedroom, household’s needs.
This system would need approximately 10m2 of roof space. Smaller or larger
systems can be fitted depending on both available space and budget.
Photovoltaic panels are a good solution for companies looking to reduce
their carbon emissions and demonstrate their commitment to sustainability.
Grants
The BERR funded low carbon buildings programme offers grants to help with
the costs of installing a solar PV panels, with up to £2,500 available for
domestic properties. Grants are also available for non-profit community
projects and schools.
